Ben studied at The University of Leeds, where he attained the degree of Bachelor of Arts (honours) and was awarded Lord Snowden's Prize. Studying under Martin Roscoe, he then completed his Master of Music degree in 1993, having specialised in Performance Studies.

Whilst teaching at Ampleforth College and Leeds University, he was Assistant Choral Master of the Halifax Youth Choir and freelanced as accompanist, soloist, conductor and teacher. He was appointed Director of Music at the Royal School, Haslemere, in 1995 and also became Conductor of the Guildford Singers. He arrived at Lord Wandsworth College in 2004 as Director of Music, having spent the previous 6 years as Head of Music at St. John's School - Leatherhead.

Ben currently divides his time between teaching, giving workshops on performance skills, adjudicating, performing and teaching his two children - Emily (5) and Thomas (2) - to play Rugby!!
